Open Letter to My Most Precious Hopper

This letter is to my wonderful friend Hopper. Happy Birthday my love.

I cannot begin to express how blessed I feel to have such a wonderful friend. It was just the other day that I sat and really considered just what it is you mean to me. It seems as though you came along at a transitional time in my life when I really was in need of a friend. You seamlessly filled that void, and for that I am truly grateful. You were there for me when there was truly no logical reason for it. So many times, you saved me.

If ever I had to define unconditional friendship, your face is the one that comes to mind. You are so kind, giving, and loving. Never judgmental , and always there to lend an ear. You are my sounding board and one of the most supportive people in my life. My own personal cheerleader. My one man pep squad. You know the most hurtful of my hurts, the most shameful of my shame, and my most secret desires. You're the person I tell, when I'm too bashful to say. I can tell you everything, and not be ashamed to look you in the face afterwards. You are my secret keeper.

And I never truly realized until now.

My spiritual wonder twin, though physically we appear to be polar opposites. 600 miles could not break the connection. I love the fact that 10pm on Wednesdays, I know exactly what you are doing. Other times, I know the song you are humming in your head. It's almost creepy how that happens. There are fleeting moments where we share time and space.

And though there are things that we may never share, there is one thing that remains constant and true. You have always had my back. Period. Never flaky. Never wavering. I cannot say that about any other friend that I have. My theater buddy, my laundry partner, my shoulder to cry on, my home away from home.

As you celebrate another year of your life and look onward to the next, know these three things:

You are cherished and wonderful

You mean the world to me

And I love you dear, Richard.

Happy Birthday

Playing Hooky with the Kid

Chicken Little
Yesterday, the kid and I took the day off and headed out to the Border's Books & Music store in downtown Ace-Deuce. We had a blast.

Little did I know that when I saw Paolo Nutini on The Today Show a wee bit over a month ago (and since fell in love with his CD) that I'd actually have the opportunity to see a performance so soon and also have a chat with him. What a nice guy. (Holy crap, I can't believe he's only 18. But those lyrics are all grown up baby.)

The kid and I sat and sang along to 5 or so songs, and Paolo really took a liking to the kid which was too cute. He gave him a "soul hand shake" that really let me know that soul is alive and well in the UK. The kid didn't seem at all perplexed about Paolo's Scottish accent. My baby is so cultured! :-) His publicist even took a picture of the kid for the band's American tour pics. All in all it was a good time.

We spent the rest of the day stolling the streets of Ann Arbor and then we headed back for errands and whatnot. Since it was also my brother's birthday I had to pick up a little something for his milestone 30th birthday. He played it low key though. I hope he's not getting depressed or feeling old. Life is good. 30 is the new....something...shit I dunno.

The day ended for me with a kick ass Cha Cha class and a slice of home made egg custard pie. Yum!

Man, it made me wanna call off the rest of the week and just chill.

But since I couldn't do that, I'll just leave it with this and remember the wonderful day that I had with my little cutie patootie.

He really is wonderful that kid.

Another Year, Time to Reflect

Chicken Little

Yesterday was my birthday.

It was pretty low-key.  Nothing special.  I actually forgot it was my birthday until my mother called up singing while I was still half asleep (and well on my way to being way late for work!)

All in all it was a good day.  I got my homework turned in (yes, I'm a career student.  Wanna make something of it?!)  I went to Grandma's house for lunch after stopping at U of D-Mercy to use the Law Library really quick.  I had awesome cake.  I got lots of nice presents (a fork bracelet!!) and calls and emails from Jersey.  I love those guys.

The kid and I hung out for a bit and I took him to get his hair cut.  He looks so cute in a "Golden Child" sort of way.  I love that boy.

I spent time with the family and overall I have to say, I feel truly blessed.

Life is good.  My wants and needs are met.  I feel whole.

I'm happy.
